In Hot Water
This weekend we went to my friend's house on Lake Anna. The lake is used to cool a nuclear power plant so the water's temperature was about 80 degrees. Weird huh? Don't worry, nobody came out with a third eye or anything like that. It's safe.
We had a great time swimming, tubing and wake boarding. Mike attempted the wake boarding while I relaxed on the boat. *Side note: It's highly unlikely that you'll see me in a bathing suit picture, so I hope you don't mind the toes.

Frozen Goodness
Bathing suits, now popsicles. Summer is here. I found these frozen delights on TasteSpotting, a smorgasbord pleasing to the eye and palate. Also, I recently made Choco Tacos for the husband's birthday. They were a fail. Frozen crepes don't work very well as taco shells.

Bathing Suit Blues
Unfortunately, the summer temperatures are rising and the cool waves at the beach are calling my name. Meaning...time to put on the dreaded bathing suit. I have never liked myself in a bathing suit, except for the hot pink one that matched my barbie doll when I was six.
Here are a few from Anthropologie that I actually like and a great quote from Mae West. I tend to gravitate towards the bathing suits from the 40's. A curvaceous body was more appreciated then.

Cultivate your curves -they may be dangerous but they won't be avoided.

Adventures of a 30-year-old Girl: Part 2
7.11.09
Today I planned to go swimming at my sister's house and then have dinner with family. I threw on some clothes, sloppily brushed my hair, ran some errands and drove over to my sister's for a quick swim. As we drove up to the house I saw a blow-up totem pole creeping up over their fence. Odd, I thought. Then as we walked into the backyard, friends and family screamed from the deck "SURPRISE!!!!" The first thing I thought was, "OMG, I didn't take a shower today."

My husband and my sister threw me a surprise birthday pool party/lua to celebrate my 30th. They're the greatest!
What a great way to kick off a new decade, with the people you love the most!
p.s. never leave the house looking like crap, you never know who you might see

Adventures of a 30-year-old Girl: Part 1
7.3.09
Today we visited Coventry Village, OH. While waiting for a table at Tommy's Restaurant, we played in this retro toy store (more like a toy museum) called Big Fun. They have grand collections of every kind of toy you can think of. My personal favorites: Care Bears, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, He-Man...
7.4.09
On the 4th of July we walked down to the neighborhood parade, played croquet and watched fireworks on the lake.
7.5.09
Visited another little town called Peninsula. Gorgeous views and a darling antique shop (see owl pin below).
7.6.09
Today I said farewell to my 20's. This delicious snickers ice cream cake cheered me up.
Side Note: My mother-in-law has a collection of vintage hats that her grandmother made in the 30's and 40's. How cool is that! Of course I had to try them all on (not sharing those photos).

Half-Blood Prince
If you're a Harry Potter geek like I am, you're probably counting down the days until the Half-Blood Prince comes out in theaters. I'll admit, this book was not my favorite of the series, but the movie looks amazing! I'm sure you've seen the trailer, but wow does it look dark. I'm a little scared. We're going to see it in IMAX at midnight!
Remember the good old days...
